I was very excited when I had this idea. The idea of a girl with an unusually big eye strikes me so much because it is such a big difference that separates her from others. The eye creates contrast and conflict, thus the stories appear naturally. I immediately imagined how chaotic her life would be and how depressed the girl feels. I call her “Zina” because z is the last letter it means stay low key and hide from the world.
Zina must be very shamed about this eye, just like I was so shamed about my lips and nose when I was young. My lips were thick and my nose was not straight. I was very sensitive about them. I looked in the mirror and I hated myself. The nose and lips didn’t bring me anything good, but Zina’s eye is different. That eye is born with some ability. I need that ability to make myself feel like I live again, in the form of Zina.
The first version was a test and exploration. I need to have an overall feeling about what Zina would look like. I don’t want her to be super cute, although she is only 12, she must have been through some tough things, and there will not be much room for innocence in her eyes. She hides everything well.
I’m happy with her shoes. I’ve put some efforts making the sneakers and they turned out nice.
Next step I will redo the whole model in Blender.
